This week, the metal roof is being installed on the Shevlin Commons home by local roofing company, River Roofing.
Metal roofing material has a variety of benefits. It lasts as long as the house, completely sealing out water, surviving high winds, and easily shedding snow. Metal is resistant to fire, mildew, insects, and rot, and also reflects radiant heat from the sun, minimizing midday heat gain. 
Using metal roofing also eliminates the use of traditional fibrous materials coated with petrochemicals that pollute ground water every time it rains. Asphalt shingles also require maintenance and have to be replaced every 12-20 years.
