20 Jan Before and After: A Bend 70’s Home Remodeled
Updating your house through an extensive remodel may feel like a challenge, but you may be pleasantly surprised with how much you love your home after it’s complete.
This 1970’s home in Bend, Oregon was in a great neighborhood and sat on a lovely lot with amazing trees and mature landscaping. But it felt cramped and dated. Through an extensive remodel, we transformed it into a Contemporary Colonial Style home with lots of livable space.
Originally, this house was a small feeling 3-bedroom, one-bath home with an unfinished attic and a mostly unfinished basement with a small family room.
We knew we wanted to retain some of the original features like the Colonial style fireplace and mantel and the gorgeous hardwood floors. Yet, we also understood the need to completely change the floor-plan. By rethinking the space, we created a Master Suite with a walk-in closet and a large, private master bath. We retained a second bedroom on the main level, perfect for a child’s room, guest room, or office. The original bath on the main floor was remodeled with beautiful tile and fixtures.
By changing the layout of the entry, we made the space more elegant yet still found a way to add a coat closet. The larger arch-way from the living room to the kitchen, allows great flow. And the modern kitchen is bright and inviting.
We completely remodeled the attic and downstairs. On the upper level, we transformed an unfinished attic into a large bonus room accessed by a stairway added off the living room. Downstairs, we expanded and updated the family room, added a bathroom, two big bedrooms, and a large walk-in storage area.
If you’re frustrated with your current home, or just looking to make it feel more current, remodeling is a great option.
