15 May Creating Historic Style
With just a few weeks’ work left on the traditional home we’re building in Tetherow’s Glen Neighborhood, the job-site is busy with finish trades. Finish carpenters, tile setters, and painters are working on many of the details that will give this home its charm.
The finish carpenters have set up shop in the garage, and are hard at work installing wood-trim throughout the house. Quality craftsmanship is important to us in every phase of construction and it’s evident in details like the historically styled windows that include crown molding, parting bead, and thickened sills. It’s also apparent in the banister, decorative newel posts, and wainscoting in the stairway, which will be bathed in sunlight from a large, southern-facing window.
In the coming days, the kitchen will start to take shape. We’ll be installing white enamel cabinetry, concrete countertops, and Jenn Air appliances. The large island will have ebony cabinets to accent the surrounding white and an EcoCrush countertop. Nearby, the great room fireplace will have a classic wood mantel that continues the traditional styling used for the windows and doors. Hand scraped, oak flooring will add to the classic and warm design.
Outside, we’re painting the lap and shake siding and prepping the ground for the driveway, entry, and front patio. The exposed tongue and groove soffits in the front and back have already been stained and will be complemented by salt finished concrete hardscaping.
