Mocking up Trusses

Mocking up Trusses

As the design for ‘Desert Rain’ draws nearer to completion, the design team is finalizing a few remaining details.  Envisioning what the end product will look like can be a challenge and for the ‘Desert Rain’ project, many of the finish selections are not simply being purchased from a supplier as is.

The trusses are a perfect example of this.  They will be exposed and have a high impact on the overall aesthetics of the home.  Because of this, the design team decided a mock-up of the trusses would be helpful.

Using wood that has already been reclaimed from the potato barn, local craftsman, Steve Navarra, set to work.  The aesthetic of the trusses will also reflect the principles of of the homeowners and their desire to build a home that meets that Living Building Challenge.  Knowing this, Steve sourced reclaimed washers that have a beautiful, rusted patina.
