Greywater System Approval: a Big Step for Green Building in Bend

Conserving water in the high desert is a big deal. But what if recycling was a bigger part of the equation? Desert Rain, the uber green, custom home we are building, is the first home in Bend, and in the entire state of Oregon, to receive a residential waste water permit. This means we have approval to use the grey water system that will treat and reuse waste water from sinks showers and laundry.

This is an important milestone for Desert Rain, a Living Building Challenge project, and for residential construction in our community. By providing a viable example for real water conservation, this project is paving the way for a more sustainable approach to building homes.

As big news for green building in our community, our local newspaper has done a great job of documenting the project. You can read the complete Bulletin article here.
